Understanding Form: Planar Construction

This assignment will teach you how to loft designs and sketches (shapes) from 2 dimensions into 3 dimensions.  You will not only learn how to create a form through completing this exercise, it will also make you aware of the space in which objects exist.

We will use foam board as the sole material, and basic tools (X-acto knives, rulers, pencils, and hot glue guns) to aid us in construction of the forms.

Assignment Requirements:
1.  Two (2) completed forms, due in two weeks:  February 18, 2016
2.  One of the forms will be given to you in class to reproduce.  The object chosen for this semester: Anvil!
3.  The remaining form is your choice, but must be approved by me during our discussion next week.  As we learned in the lecture on form, the work can be representational, abstract, or nonobjective.
Due next week (Feb. 11th) is the object you wish to make.  Bring in three options for us to discuss and choose from.  They can be presented in sketches showing multiple angles, photographs from multiple angles, or by bringing the actual objects in for direct observation.  (Bonus points for students wishing to present their options via PowerPoint)

Once again:   Due date is February 18, 2016

Come to class prepared to discuss your ideas and final pieces on that day.
